Doit.im

This task management service by snoworange uses a clean GTD approach, which is rare, especially in free services. The specific application combines the simplicity of a left-sidebar GUI like nirvana with our –sometimes really complicated- favorite methodology, inviting all users from novice to experts to put their lives in order.

Doit.im is an ambitious and well designed project based on a web service which is easy to use, with additional presence to the popular mobile devices. With 2 million users by the time I’m writing this, it aspires to be everyone’s favorite task management application.

Killer features:

  • Very good an simple GTD Project management
  • Linking tasks to Google Calendar
  • Speak to create tasks
  • Adding details to tasks from one line using shortcut characters
  • Fast and well designed web interface with shortcut key support

Weaknesses:

  • Lack of import/export features
  • No in-line/quick editing for tasks

GTD Mode: All standard GTD entities are supported.

Elements: Tasks, contexts, projects, tags, reminders, priorities, contacts, recurring events, starred next actions, and standard GTD lists (Inbox, Waiting, Someday).

Supported services: Custom filters, searching, task reordering, e-mail reminders, share with contacts, link to Google Calendar, API (even if the whole developer center is in Chinese!).

Mobile: Android, iPhone and iPad

Cost: Free

Conclusion: Doit.im has a really good potential. The web application is really good, allowing easy addition of tasks and sharing with contacts which you can invite to the service. Adding some advanced functionality like importing and exporting would really lift the service to great heights.
Some complaints I would like to add concern the Android mobile application which I tested. It is missing some vital features like widgets and left/right sliding and (due to the unknown powers of synchronicity, the Android app was updated the same day I have written this post and it now has widgets and left sliding of the menu/sidebar) makes the editing of tasks a bit hard (you should use your index finger carefully to fine tune dates and times) .
But apart from those few missing features, we have an intuitive full-working service that could and should get one of the best in the market.
